The identity for the 2007 Emerging Writers’ Festival came from re-imagining two elements of the previous festivals; the idea of exposing and discovering new talent, and a ubiquitous red pencil. These were combined using an engraved metal plate, from which rubbings were taken. For the promotional posters, only the pertinent information was printed (on the bottom half), allowing the typographic mark to be rubbed on manually for each one. Each poster was then numbered. The festival program was made to emulate a Moleskine notebook in scale and materials. Among the pages of information, blank/lined pages were left for note-taking purposes, the program also came with the red pencil.
