Dumbo Feather
We've followed Dumbo Feather since the start, it was around the time that Is Not Magazine started, and we would bump into Kate Bezar, Dumbo Feather's founder and editor, at various design markets and indie publishing gigs. This was years before Chase & Galley was started, which made it that much nicer when we were approached by the new editor to look at redesigning the magazine. The basic structure of the magazine is unchanged: five extended interviews with smaller features embedded within those interviews, but there are now smaller features and a prose section (an historical profile and a memoir piece). Dumbo Feather has always been distinctively its own thing, and retaining that while changing everything about it caused us great anxiety, but was also an interesting challenge.
